How to Fix Windows Update Error?

This windows update error  can occur due to various reasons. It might have happened due to the factors or issues such as stopped system services, software conflicts, outdated system drivers or corrupt system files. You might get the error as:

There were problems downloading some updates, but we’ll try again later. If you keep seeing this, try searching the web or contacting support for help.

f you are getting the error while installing windows automatic updates, you could try the below steps to get it fixed:

 

Procedure  1:

 If you are getting an option to retry, do click on the retry button after few minutes. This might work sometimes to get rid of the error. Check to make sure that your wifi connection is not set to metered connection. Reboot the computer and try with different connection like cabled one.

 

Procedure 2:

Run the Windows Update troubleshooter.

You can access the windows troubleshooter in windows 10 and windows 8.1 as follows:

  1. Type “Troubleshooting” in search box and press Enter.
  2. Click on “View All” option on top left pane.
  3. Select “Windows Update” from the list and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.

 

Procedure 3:

Manually reset the windows catroot2 folder and software distribution folder:

Catroot and catroot2 folders contains the windows update package signatures to help installing the updates. Deleting the contents of catroot2 folder might work in fixing this error code.

Follow the below steps to reset the catroot2 folder:

  1. Open Command prompt  with admin rights ( press Windows  key + X key together from the keyboard and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)”)
  2. Enter the below commands in the command prompt and press ENTER key after entering each command

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

3. Enter the below two commands in command prompt to rename the catroot2 folder and software distribution folder

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

4. Now enter the below commands in cmd prompt to start the above stopped services.

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

5. Close the command prompt now and restart the computer to try installing the updates.
